The American ABC Network has apologized to the Chinese community for a television show during which kids joked about "killing all Chinese" people.
In the email addressed to 80-20, a US national political action committee dedicated to winning equal opportunity and justice for all Asian Americans, ABC said they would never purposefully broadcast anything to upset the Chinese community.
Here's a clip from the October 16th edition of ABC's late night talk show "Jimmy Kimmel Live".
The skit instantly drew ire from the Chinese community, who began a White House petition calling for a formal apology.
Let's first check out what the netizens have to say about this.

"Fw360" on scmp.com says:
I never knew holocaust or genocide could be so casually joked around like this... let alone being so brainlessly aired on TV. Two questions immediately come to mind: (a) What kind of education is this kid is getting at home? Talking about killing so casually? Killing somebody to avoid an obligation? (b) What is ABC thinking? Does this mean ABC's editorial policy finds it acceptable to air racist jokes like this?

"seanniem" also on scmp.com disagrees by saying:
"This is making a mountain out of a mole hill. It's a comedy show. It's satire. It's meant to make fun of ignorant American mentalities represented through a child. I think it is making fun of Americans more so than Kimmel being racist".

Another commentator "Jve" holding similar opinions says:
The whole reason the idea of 'kill everyone in China' is funny is because it's coming from the mouth of a 6-year old, and of course is a ridiculous over-the-top 'solution' to a problem the boy has no serious clue about. There is also nothing racist about it. Kimmel prompted the kids with China since that country is one of the largest foreign sovereign holders of US debt. If Iceland would have been in that position and been taken as an example, the line would have been 'Kill everybody in Iceland.'

Zhang Rouqing on sina.com.cn says:
No matter they are in America or in China, media outlets shoulder noble yet heavy social responsibilities. There is also a red line that media in both countries should not cross. The skit aired by ABC has clearly crossed that line and goes against media ethics. The US hails the freedom of speech, but should it allow speeches that threaten to kill 1.3-billion people? Some might think I'm overreacting, but haven't we heard similar hate speeches by American politicians already? Some of them were even turned into American foreign policies! "Jimmy Kimmel Live" must respond properly to Chinese people's concern this time.
To know more on this issue, let's cross over live to Joe Wang, Chinese American stand-up comedian.
